The Eye of the Beholder

When Peggy’s mother wanted to know why she needed to be out until 3am on a school night (nearly every school night), she tried to explain that the best music happened deep in a groove that often didn’t materialize ’til after midnight.  More than a few years later, that’s still where you’ll find her, camera in hand, down in the Groove.

A Chicago native, Peggy has lived in Los Angeles since 1984. Peggy’s first show was initiated by an invite from Americana Music Association President Jed Hilly to shoot their SXSW 2010 show at Antone’s. Performers included Jim Lauderdale, Hayes Carll, Elizabeth Cook, and Court Yard Hounds (Martie Maguire and Emily Robison of The Chicks’ side project). Ever since that show, she has been taking her camera around the country, capturing the onstage spark of artists such as Lucinda Williams, Charles Lloyd, Steve Earle, Jim Lauderdale, Hayes Carll, The Mastersons, Jesse Malin, and so many, many more… from small clubs to some of the most legendary stages in America, to festivals on land (Monterey Jazz Fest, SXSW, Michael Hearne’s Big Barn Dance, Hardly Strictly, Arroyo Seco) and sea (Cayamo and Sirius XM Outlaw Country Cruise), for both artists and producers.

Peggy’s passion for photography, which began with music, could not help but expand to sweeping vistas of the American West, the wild inhabitants and mountains surrounding her Malibu home, and abstract renderings of everyday objects and life.  Her work has been published in magazine, newspaper and book form.

Peggy’s photography is influenced and supported by her daily Sudarshan Kriya
Yoga breath meditation, which allows her to maintain a balance between
solid effort and spontaneous inspiration.  Being fully present for an artist’s deep
Groove, or a macro view of an orchid petal, brings beauty from the eye of this
beholder… to you.
